Encoder module
A rotary encoder with integral push button, mounted on a small PCB with a 4-pin header and cable that connects directly to the OLED display adapter board. Every Tortuga Audio preamp controller has used an encoder like this since day one, as the local, tactile counterpart to the infrared remote — providing hands-on control of volume, power, mute, channel balance, and input selection.

Local control that doesn’t need a battery
The remote is convenient, but it’s not always in reach, and it can run flat or get buried in a couch cushion. The encoder is the fallback that’s always exactly where you left your preamp: turn it for volume, press it for menu actions, and every input is read by the same firmware and reflected on the same OLED screen as any other control. Because it plugs into the OLED display assembly through its own 4-pin header rather than being soldered onto the main controller board, replacing a worn or damaged encoder is a simple swap, not a full teardown.
